How Your Tax Refund Can Help Your Pet

While it’s tempting to use your tax refund to treat yourself to a fancy dinner or a new car, here’s some ways your pet would benefit from you spending your tax refund on them!

  • Annual wellness exam: If your pet is overdue for a physical exam and vaccine updates, using your tax refund to pay for it will be a lot better for your pet than a new purse you were window-shopping for.
  • Dental cleaning: Did you know that by the age of two, the AVMA estimates that over 70% of cats and dogs have some kind of dental disease?  Stop into your vet to discuss a dental cleaning!  Dental disease can lead to bigger problems later down the road, including heart problems. If you’ve been putting off a dental cleaning for your pet due to finances, using your tax refund takes the pressure off your wallet.
  • Stocking up on Flea and Heartworm Prevention: That’s right, stock up your supplies since spring is finally here and those pesky fleas and disease-transmitting-mosquitos are out and ready to pounce on your pet.  Use your tax refund to buy your flea and heartworm prevention in bulk; it will be cheaper in the long run by buying in multiples of 6 or 12 since most companies provide discounts or rebates for bigger purchases.
  • Microchipping: If your pet is not microchipped, it’s never too late to implant one!  This procedure is as quick as a vaccine and is a permanent form of identification that dramatically increases the chances of your pet returning home if ever lost.  Ask your vet about HomeAgain microchips!
