Canine Influenza:
This disease impacts your dog’s respiratory system. Symptoms can appear as quickly as 2 days after exposure! Symptoms include:
- Eye discharge
- Sneezing
- Coughing,
- Lethargy
- Fever
While strong, healthy dogs rarely find the influenza virus to be fatal, dogs with other medical conditions or experiencing multiple infections at once can die from this virus. Vaccinating your pet will prepare their immune system to fight off this disease should they be exposed to it!
Feline Rabies
Rabies across all species is a deadly disease – and the only test available to determine if an animal has rabies must be performed after euthanization.
Exposure is usually via the bite of a rabies infected animal, but can be transmitted via the saliva of an infected animal to the mucus membrane or open wound of your cat. How quickly symptoms appear and what types of symptoms occur vary greatly between individual animals. “Classic” symptoms include:
- Changes in behavior (can be aggression, constant agitation, or lethargy and unusual shyness)
- Confusion and disorientation
- Weakness and uncoordination
- Paralysis (may be of only specific muscles)
- Seizures
To spare your cats such a fate, be sure to get them vaccinated!
