Intestinal Parasites

There are five common parasites that dogs and cats can share with each other and your family. Most parasites can be found in sandboxes, dirt, potting soil and grass. These parasites are released through an animal’s feces and their eggs can live in an environment for months.

Intestinal parasites can be detected by visiting your veterinarian at least once a year for a fecal exam. It is recommended that puppies and kittens be tested for intestinal parasites 2-4 times a year. Adult dogs and cats taking prevention medication should be tested 1-2 times a year and the dogs and cats not on prevention should be tested 2-4 times a year.
