National Hairball Awareness Day

Every cat parent understands the struggle of an icky hairball! Here are our top 3 suggestions to reduce hairballs (and make those that remain easier) for your feline friend!

1) Brush your cat: While cats are good at grooming themselves, helping the process will help reduce the number and size of their hairballs. While the benefits may be clear if you have a long haired cat, it still can benefit short haired kitties. Brushing at least once per week not only will help your cat’s hairballs, but also will provide bonding time for you and your cat.

2) Make sure your cat is hydrated: While hydration is crucial for all your feline’s bodily functions, it also aids with any hair swallowed by aiding the digestion process.

3) Try a hairball laxative: There are many different brands and flavors available. Typically, these products come in a tube and you can just mix some into your cat’s food. These laxatives are designed to aid the hairball process by lubricating them. Check with your veterinarian to see which brand would be best for your individual cat!
